I think I'm indignant

or at least confused.

and I blame my mother.

She likes these shows, you’ve heard of them, you’ve probably even seen them, these shows, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. I’d never seen them before this week, but since the combination of it being the week of the final episodes of each and that my mom was here, it was imperative that they be watched, and together. OK, whatever. I’ll watch.

And I watched. And there was a good amount of cheesy talent. When the finalists were done with their performances, and the judges had voiced their opinions on the merits of each of the finalists’ performance, there was not a winner. This might not seem strange to people who have been watching these shows for a while, but I felt deflated, robbed, confused and indignant. I can’t imagine that the majority of the viewing public doesn’t understand what’s going on with programming like this, yet they continue to accept that they’re being asked to watch over 2 hours of programming over 2 nights that contains about 20 minutes of actual content.

The comparison I was making last night is to a sporting event. Would people like sports if the contest happened, the score was tallied, but then you had to wait until the next day for people to call in to say who they thought should have won regardless of the initial outcome? I would guess not.
